Publication of the 12th issue of the scientific journal Baltic Screen Media Review
Abstract
"Baltic Screen Media Review" is an English-language peer-reviewed scientific journal that focuses on the audiovisual culture and industry of the Baltic countries and the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The first issue of the magazine was published in 2013. The twelfth issue will be published in December 2024. The magazine's unique approach is that we try to analytically integrate several screen-based arts and media phenomena - film art, video art, television, new media art, computer games, etc. We publish this magazine because BFM has been called into existence as an academic institution responsible for the succession and progress of the audiovisual culture of the Baltic region, and therefore we must also take care of the academic exchange of ideas and the development of the professional language regarding this subject. The 2024 issue brings together different articles, for example: 1) In his article, Indrek Ibrus and his co-authors innovatively discuss how to use link data to study the development of film culture in the Estonian context. 2) Sten Kauber and Ulrike Rohn's article focuses on audience research on the example of Estonian cinema as a small country. 3) Jono Van Belle and Åsa Jernudd explore in their article how to use oral history methodology for historical audience research. 4) Tomas Vaitelė discusses how the West is constructed in the 1963 Soviet film "Королевство кривых зеркал". 5) Manuel Damasio discusses, in the format of an opinion piece, the operation of FilmEU, a network of film universities, as an example of higher education innovation in the field of screen media.
