Assessing knowledge and skill fade of Estonian reservists
Abstract
The aim of the project “Development of methods to assess the skills that determine reservists’ basic performance as soldiers” (No. R-014, 15323) was to develop methods for assessing the individual and collective skills necessary for the military perfor mance of reservists. As a result of the project, tools for evaluating the skills of individual soldiers, squads, and platoons have been developed. This project focuses on the broader application of the measurement tools within the Estonian Defense Forces and the collection of additional data. Based on the individual-level data collected during the previous project, recommendations will be made to address training shortcomings. Unit level assessment tools will be refined, instructional materials for units will be created, and additional data will be gathered to describe the retention of training at the squad and platoon levels. The project is related to the force generation and defense readiness objectives set out in the Ministry of Defence Development Plan.
