Study of barium background concentration in surface water bodies

In Estonia, the natural background level of the pollutant barium (Ba) is currently unknown, which could explain the elevated Ba concentrations in some water bodies. Additional studies will be carried out to establish the natural background levels of Ba, ensuring these values can be considered when applying limit thresholds for assessing the status of surface water bodies, if necessary.
