Science Communication in Information Disorder (SCID)

Himma, Marju

Abstract

The project Science Communication of Information Disorder (SCID) provides an answer to how people verify scientific information and, based on the results, how to conduct scientific communication activities that are deliberative and dialogical. We use qualitative social science methods (e.g., focus group interviews and creative methods for case studies) to study different science communication stakeholders such as students, journalists, researchers, and politicians. Research results help to understand why people misinterpret scientific information and how to increase resilience towards information disorder in society. SCID project will outline the practices people use to verify scientific information and develop a framework and practical tool for deliberative science communication. The project outcomes are relevant to scientists and researchers, journalists, politicians, research administrators and communication specialists.
