Possibilities of preserving the cultural heritage of rural areas in the context of sustainable development
Abstract
Heritage research reflects what is lived as a personal experience. Our research focuses on rural areas, where counter-urbanization and opportunities to preserve cultural heritage constitute a competitive advantage. The study aims to describe cultural heritage as a resource in the context of regional development. Cultural heritage is here linked to sustainable development. Using various data collection methods (interviews, analysis of development documents, etc.), we will analyze factors and institutions that play an important role in conserving and restoring cultural heritage and influencing regional development. The study will identify heritage conservation, restoration, and implementation opportunities in 10 regions with different backgrounds. The concept of cultural heritage in sustainable development will be clarified. In addition to the analyses, an implementation plan will be drawn up with recommendations on how to capitalise on these factors and extend them to other regions.
