Breeding biology and protection during the spawning of pike in central part of Lake Peipus
Abstract
During the project it will be found out the dynamics of size and distribution, age structure of first spawning and by-catch in spring shore gillnets of the pike population in the central part of Lake Peipsi. The representation of different age classes in commercial fishermen's catches and scientific catches will be analysed. The most important pike spawning sites in the central part of Lake Peipsi, the temporal dynamics of spawning, and the need for additional protection of spawning areas in the estuary areas will be identified.
