Taiwan Genetic Diversity
Abstract
Taiwan Genetic Diversity is a bridge between previous research focussed on Philippines, Indonesia, and East Timor, and the study of the Aboriginal peoples of Taiwan as a future ERC proposal. There is a continuation of methods development, related to the detection and quantification of genetic structure, both within and between populations, and its effect on diversity through the forces of drift and selection. The project represents a shift of focus to include genomic health and precision medicine, realised through established collaborations with local indigenous researchers. It is further augmented by ties to other groups across Oceania resulting in a network that unites researchers working on Indigenous health. The output of Taiwan Genetic Diversity forms the foundation for long-term collaboration studying multi-ethnic cohorts and provides a significant contribution to the smart specialisation area of health.
