Conceptualising internationalisation in Estonian music sector and policy making.
Abstract
The project focuses on internationalisation as a significant social phenomenon in the career of music actors, including creative individuals, collectives, and organisations. Although internationalisation is a widely used concept in music life, its meaning is often vague, even inconsistent which might be related to the particular mindsets of said music actors. Internationalisation and cultural export are also among cultural policy goals, supported by programs and promoted by cultural representatives. The project explores how music actors and policymakers interpret and practice internationalisation in the Estonian music and policy sectors and what are the mindsets which they exhibit in relation to these practices. Based on the interviews and policy document analysis, the project will create the most comprehensive qualitative analysis of internationalisation in Estonia, providing valuable insight for professionals, policymakers and educators working in music.
