Inventory of protected species of ostracod fauna and risk assessment in Estonia
Abstract
The data collected provides a new overview of Estonian protected crustacean (Ostracoda) species. As a result new protected species may be included under protection or change the threat level of some species or remove them from the Red List. Documentation of new species that have not been previously described in Estonia may be outcome as well. Up-to-date information explains the characteristics of the living environment of crustacean species, and it is possible to give an assessment of changes in the environment over time, since the time interval between previous and current study is several decades. The inventory improves the taxonomic names of ostracod species. The database can also be used in the preparation of scientific publications.
