New methods and pedagogies in teaching Scandinavian languages
Abstract
The project aims to create a network of institutions that teach Scandinavian languages to chart the current teaching content, learning outcomes, and pedagogies within the area. The objective of the network is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences of teaching Scandinavian languages in the region and develop new teaching pedagogies and materials for teaching Scandinavian languages. The motivation for founding this network with colleagues at other institutes was the result of a discussion about how to best teach our students what they need to know in the course of their 3-year BA degree in Scandinavian language and literary studies: which courses are relevant for the students, how do we best teach them, and where does the focus of the degree need to be. This network consists of participants from four different universities that offer degrees in Scandinavian languages, either as a foreign language or as a neighbor language: The University of Tartu, The University of Vilnius, The University of Bergen, and the University of Iceland. The purpose of the network is to devise ways of improving our respective curricula and teaching methods. We aim to share our findings and disseminate good practices through workshops and publications.
