The entangled development of the Estonian language, book and literacy from the 16th century to nowadays
Abstract
The main objective of the project is to research intertwined and in the international context the development of the Estonian language, book and literacy and to share the results with the wider public via publications, exhibitions and public speaking events in the framework of Estonian Book 500s. In 2025 and 2026 the 500th anniversary of the Estonian and Latvian book will be celebrated. For the jubilee year a monograph and other research work, a publication of oldest Estonian primers, three exhibitions (including one in Latvia), conference presentations, public lectures, radio programmes, teaching materials, etc will be completed that are all directed towards introducing Estonian literacy culture and book to the academic community and the wider public.
