Marine monitoring 2024. Part 3. Monitoring microlitter concentrations in the surface layer of seawater and marine bottom sediments
Abstract
The aim of this work is to collect data on microlitter in Estonian marine areas to assess the state of the marine environment. During the monitoring process, samples will be collected from the water column and marine sediments, based on which microlitter content analyses will be conducted. The collected data will be analyzed to determine the quantity, characteristics, material composition, and abundance of microplastics in various parts of Estonian marine areas. Additionally, the suitability of different sampling methods will be evaluated, and recommendations for their future use will be provided. Finally, proposals for establishing threshold values for microplastics will be presented.
