Abstract

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS), where it produces fast inhibition in neurons primarily by activation of A type GABA receptors (GABAA) chloride channels. Interestly GABA is also produced in the pancreatic beta cells, where it exists at the highest concentration outside of the CNS. In current project we will discover how loss of Wolframin 1 is affecting pancreatic Langerhans islet GABA-eric pathways using the rat model of Wolfram Syndrome.
