Seroepidemiologic Study
Abstract
The level of population immunity can be assessed by vaccination coverage and seroprevalence studies. In Estonia, the level of vaccination has decreased compared to previous years, and is be-low the 95% recommended by the WHO. Seroprevalence studies have not been done in Estonia before, and therefore we do not have sero-epidemiological data of vaccine-preventable pathogens in Estonia. The aim of the study is to determine the amount of antibodies of five different vaccine-preventable pathogens (rubella, measles, mumps, diphtheria and tetanus) in people living in Esto-nia in different age groups. After determining the amount of antibodies, we analyze the results of laboratory tests by year of birth. According to the obtained results, we submit proposals to the Ministry of Social Affairs' Immune prophylaxis committee to optimize the immunization plan, to inform the population about the need for MMR and dT vaccination/revaccination, and to organize additional vacci-nation campaigns.
